Tyler Sheehan did all he could in a 24-10 loss to Central Michigan. He threw 55 times for 341 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The MAC’s leading passer went toe to toe with Dan LeFevour, a dark horse Heisman candidate, for all four quarters. The Falcons could only manage 10 points however, seven of which came off a Sheehan pass to his favorite target, Freddie Barnes, from 24 yards out early in the second quarter. The Bowling Green offense could only manage another 3 points coming off of a Matthew Nosic 40 yard field goal before half.
Central Michigan ran into a feisty defense that would not give up in front of its home crowd 10,042. The Chippewa’s came into this game averaging 34 points a game, but the Falcons defense fought to the end holding them to only 24 points. The Falcons had 24 first downs to the Chippewa’s 21 and only 43 yards less than the prolific CMU offense. The two turnovers however doomed the Falcons giving Central Michigan good field position each time.
Central Michigan (7-1) goes on to face a huge obstacle next week, going against a hungry Boston College team (5-2) in Boston. The Chippewa’s have all but locked up the MAC West crown and will wait for the MAC East to settle itself out. Bowling Green (3-5) will once again try and get back on track against a struggling Buffalo team (3-4) next week in Buffalo.
