Bowling Green evened its season record to 3-3 with its 59-51 victory over Savannah State. The Falcons led by two at half, but outscored the Tigers 31-25 in the second half.
Joe Jakubowski had 14 points leading the Falcons in scoring, most of which were in the second half. Otis Polk and Erik Marschall had 10 points apiece as the only other Bowling Green players in double figures.
The Falcons shot 48 percent from the field, but struggled mightily from behind the arc only shoot a dismal 29 percent.
This lack of perimeter shooting allowed for the Tigers to stay within reach for most of the second half even though they were out-rebounded 37-28.
Tracy Rankins had a game high 24 points and was assisted by Arnold Lewis’s 13 points and nine rebounds. The Tigers shot 40 percent from the field including 36 percent from three-point range.
Savannah State had 15 turnovers nine of which were in the second half of the game and hindered an already uphill comeback.
Bowling Green (3-3) will face Fordham (1-4) on Saturday at 7:00pm. This will begin a five-game road streak as the Falcons have had their last home game of 2009.
This road stretch will pit them against very beatable opponents, and should give the coaching staff a good look at how this team will perform on the road for the rest of the season.
